A design thinking process on the eating habits at home of working people and a collective mobile application design that offers both recipes and grocery delivery services.
“What are the eating habits of working people at home?”
Whereas the importance and awareness given to healthy and clean eating have increased, the intensity of people's lives and their busy schedules continues to remain high.
For this reason, it seems more important to solve every problem encountered in a practical and efficient manner.
Considering that the safest way to eat clean is by preparing one's own meals, this study investigates the eating habits of individuals at home.
I designed a versatile mobile application that aims to focus on the challenges that discourage users from cooking at home and turn these challenges into motivators.
Before I started my interviews about my research, I had short conversations with 5 people. The purpose of these conversations was to identify the profiles I would interview and to enrich my interview questions.
・Full-time worker
・25-45 years old
・Gender does not matter
・Solo or partnered
・College student
・Students living in the student house/dormitory
・Gender does not matter
・Solo or partnered
・5 Users・21 Questions・20-25 Minutes
The outputs of the interviews I conducted guided me in creating the empathy map, the persona and their journey.
I chose Crazy 8's method twice to find creative ideas. My goal was to think outside the box as much as possible and come up with original ideas.
I scored the ideas I found according to feasibility, impact and innovation metrics. Then, I created a storyboard with prominent ideas for MVP. This storyboard shows us how our persona journey has changed within creative process.
・Those who want to eat healthily and clean,
・For those who work at an intense pace in daily life and/or
・Who have not yet acquired the habit of cooking at home
・Online grocery delivery apps (e.g. Yemek Sepeti Market, Getir,
・Trendyol Market, Migros Hemen, İste Gelsin, etc.)
・OpenAI GPT
・Covering many needs related to cooking at home within the application
・The sense of innovation brought by the practical and humanistic experience through chat with AI
・Providing convenience by automating the shopping part of the process and saving the budget
・The pleasure and motivation that comes from gaining a positive habit and creating and implementing a routine
・Contributing to the minimum waste movement by preventing the food-waste that will be created by ordering food takeout and evaluating the leftover ingredients.
It is aimed that this mobile app, which has been designed by taking into account the needs and desires, will be a useful product with loyal users.
I tested the prototype screens with 3 users for about 5 minutes.
The test scenario includes:
・Commenting of homepage contents
・Opening the recipe page
・Inspecting the page and taking action on missing ingredients
・Commenting of information on the cart page
Focusing on the user and thinking outside the box are the keys to the creative design process.
After the MVP phase, following features that users expect can be added to the application as development.
・Creating a weekly meal plan (making a shopping list based on this plan)
・Cooking alternatives with (maybe integration) air fryer/microwave/ steamer
・Expiration date tracking by scanning the package/fresh food with a barcode or camera
・Alternative suggestions for missing/allergen/non-preferred ingredients in recipes
・Diet tracking for recipe nutritional values & targeted weekly nutritional values
